Phone-checking at meals or when socialising with others seems everywhere. Is this a waste opportunity to share and connect those around us? Without the need to physically write and speak, the frequent use of smartphones may threaten the existence of some languages such as Marra, an Aboriginal language spoken in the Northern Territory, and Kristang, a Portuguese-Eurasian language spoken in Singapore and Malaysia. As a future health practitioner, I'd like to encourage my friends to communicate physically as a small step to make big changes to our mental health and preserve language. #monashdiscovery #justimagine Monash Global Discovery Program New York City 2017
